Why This Course

Most Beginners Learn Digital Marketing in Pieces. This Course Builds One Plan.

Short videos and one-off workshops teach channels in isolation: a bit of Facebook here, a bit of SEO there. What beginners rarely get is the map: how customers move from discovering a business to buying, which channel does which job, and how to tell whether any of it is working.

This course gives you that map first, then walks through every channel in order. You pick one practice business on Day 1, and every lab builds on it, so by Day 60 you have a finished 90-day marketing plan to present.

* The outline is updated regularly to reflect platform and algorithm changes.

One practice business, all the way through

On Day 1 each student picks one business to market for the whole course: their own, a friend's shop, or a made-up one (for example a bakery, a gym, a tutoring centre or an online clothing store). M1

Foundations Days 1–5 · 5 lessons

Module 1 gives beginners the map before the tools: what the channels are, how customers move through them, what success looks like, and the free accounts everything else depends on.

  1. Day 1

    What is digital marketing?

Marketing = helping the right person find, trust and buy from you online. Meet the 9 channels: SEO, AEO + GEO, Local SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Social Media, Content, Email + WhatsApp, Metrics. Owned vs earned vs paid.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Pick the practice business. Write a one-sentence description and list who buys from it.
    Homework
List 5 competitors and which channels each one uses.
  2. Day 2

The customer journey and the funnel

TOFU (aware: tips, guides, reels) to MOFU (consider: comparisons, case studies, webinars) to BOFU (buy: demos, pricing, offers, testimonials). Create content for every stage; link each piece to the next step.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Draw the funnel for the practice business and place 2 content ideas at each stage.
    Homework
Screenshot one brand's TOFU, MOFU and BOFU content.
  3. Day 3

Goals and the four numbers that matter

Awareness, traffic, leads, sales. First look at impressions, clicks, CTR, conversions, CVR. Why you own your email list but only rent an algorithm.

    In-class lab (25 min)
    Write 3 specific goals with a number and a deadline (e.g. 100 email sign-ups in 30 days).
    Homework
Rank your goals: which one pays the bills first?
  4. Day 4

    Know your audience

Who they are, what problem they have, what words they use, where they already spend time (post where your audience already is). Search intent: learn, compare, buy.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Build a one-page persona: name, problem, objections, 3 platforms, 5 phrases they would search.
    Homework
Ask 3 real people the persona questions; update the page.
  5. Day 5

    Set up your toolkit

Create or check: Google account, GA4 property, Search Console (verify a site), Looker Studio, Canva, Meta Business account. First look at UTM tags (source, medium, campaign).

    In-class lab (25 min)
Complete the setup checklist; build one UTM link for the practice business.
    Homework
Module 1 quiz (15 questions) and finish any missing setup.

Module deliverable: a one-page "marketing brief" with business description, persona, funnel map and 3 goals. Every later module adds to this brief.

SEO Days 6–17 · 12 lessons

SEO is the longest module because it underpins Local SEO, AEO + GEO and content. Students finish with one page they have fully optimised and a plan to measure it.

  1. Day 6

    How search works

Crawl, index, rank. Anatomy of a results page. Three parts of SEO: on-page, technical, off-page. SEO is free traffic that compounds, but is slow.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Google a keyword for the practice business and label ads, local pack, snippets and organic results.
    Homework
Find the top 3 ranking pages for your keyword; note what they have in common.
  2. Day 7

    Keyword research

Search intent (learn, compare, buy). Short vs long-tail keywords. Free sources: Google autocomplete, Keyword Planner, Search Console queries. One primary keyword per page.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Build a list of 20 keywords; tag each by intent; pick 1 primary and 3 secondary.
    Homework
Expand the list to 40 keywords and group them by page.
  3. Day 8

    On-page SEO I

Keyword in title, H1, URL and the first 100 words. Write a clear title tag and meta description. Short, readable URLs.

    Homework
Finish the page and add 3 internal links and alt text.

Mobile-first, fast, HTTPS, XML sitemap, robots.txt. Indexed pages and crawl errors in Search Console. Do not block important pages.

  6. Day 11

Technical SEO II: Core Web Vitals

LCP up to 2.5s, INP up to 200ms, CLS up to 0.1 in plain words: loads fast, responds fast, does not jump. Test with PageSpeed Insights.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Run PageSpeed Insights on 2 pages; list the top 3 fixes (image size, caching, layout shifts).
    Homework
Re-test after one fix, or compare two competitor pages.
  7. Day 12

    Schema markup basics

JSON-LD is Google's recommended format. Organization or LocalBusiness for the brand; Article, Product, Breadcrumb, Review where relevant; FAQ markup helps machines read Q&A. Markup must match what is visible on the page.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Generate Organization schema, paste it into the Rich Results Test, fix errors.
    Homework
Add one more schema type to a page.

Score the practice business site on 4 trust signals; write an author bio.
    Homework
Add 3 trust elements (bio, reviews, sources) to the target page.
  9. Day 14

    Off-page SEO I: backlinks

Quality beats quantity: relevant, trusted sites. Guest posts on niche websites. Digital PR: original data, stories and expert quotes.

List 10 realistic sites that could link to you and why.
    Homework
Draft one outreach email to the best target.
  10. Day 15

Off-page SEO II: link tactics and safety

Broken link building (replace dead links with yours). Turn unlinked brand mentions into links. Never buy links or use PBNs: penalty risk. Brand mentions matter too.

Find one broken-link and one unlinked-mention opportunity.
    Homework
Send the outreach email (or a practice version) and log the result.
  11. Day 16

Module deliverable: one optimised page, an audit fix list and a KPI sheet.

Local SEO Days 18–21 · 4 lessons

Local SEO is the fastest win for beginners with a shop, clinic, studio or service area, because a complete Google Business Profile can bring calls within weeks.

  1. Day 18

    Google Business Profile (GBP)

Pick the most accurate primary category; add secondary categories, services and products; correct hours including holiday hours; real photos of shop, team and work; post offers and updates every week.

    Homework
Publish the first GBP post and add 5 more photos.
  2. Day 19

How Google ranks local, and reviews

Relevance (profile matches the search), distance (you cannot control it), prominence (reviews, links, web mentions). In-class lab (25 min)
Write a review-request message with a short link, and reply to one good and one bad sample review.
    Homework
Ask 3 real customers (or friends) for reviews; reply to each.

Build a monthly local scorecard. Module 3 quiz.
    Homework
Complete the local scorecard with starting numbers.

Module deliverable: a complete GBP, a NAP sheet and a local scorecard.

M4

AEO + GEO Days 22–25 · 4 lessons

AEO and GEO are SEO's newest layer: being picked as the direct answer and being cited by AI tools. They come right after SEO because they are built on it: crawlable, trusted, well-structured pages.

  1. Day 22

What AEO and GEO mean, and AEO writing

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): be picked as the direct answer in featured snippets, voice search and AI Overviews. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): get cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. Writing rules: answer the question in the first 40-60 words; use the question as the H2 ("What is...", "How to..."); short paragraphs, numbered steps, bullet lists; comparison tables for "X vs Y"; FAQ section on key pages.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Pick 3 real customer questions. Rewrite one page intro so the answer sits in the first 40-60 words under a question H2.
    Homework
Rewrite two more answers and add a 5-question FAQ to the page.
  2. Day 23

GEO content rules and brand mentions

Give facts, numbers and clear definitions AI can quote. Cite sources and add original data or examples. Cover the topic fully, plus follow-up questions. Keep pages updated with dates and fresh info. Show a real author with experience (E-E-A-T). AI trusts brands talked about across the web: mentions on Reddit, Quora, YouTube and LinkedIn; reviews on Google and industry directories; the same name, description and details everywhere; digital PR with expert quotes in news and blogs.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Upgrade the target page: add 3 facts with sources, one original example, a last-updated date and an author bio. Map 5 places the brand should be mentioned.
    Homework
Post one genuinely helpful answer or comment in a community where your audience asks questions (no spam).
  3. Day 24

    Technical basics for AI search

Main content in plain HTML, not hidden behind JavaScript. Do not block AI search crawlers in robots.txt. Schema: Organization, Article, FAQ, Product. Fast, mobile-friendly, indexed pages. llms.txt: no major AI search engine has confirmed using it, so treat it as optional.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Read your robots.txt line by line; check one page with the Rich Results Test; confirm the page is indexed in Search Console.
    Homework
Fix any blocked or non-indexed page; add FAQ schema to the FAQ you wrote.
  4. Day 25

    Track your AI visibility

GA4: referral traffic from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai. Ask AI tools your key questions every month and note where your brand is cited or missing. Search Console impressions including AI features. Track brand searches growing over time.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Run 5 key questions through 2-3 AI tools; fill an AI visibility log (question, tool, cited yes/no, who was cited). Module 4 quiz.
    Homework
Set a monthly reminder to repeat the log; write 2 actions from the gaps.

Module deliverable: one page rewritten for answer engines and a monthly AI visibility log.

M5

Content Marketing Days 26–31 · 6 lessons

Content is the fuel for SEO, social, email and ads, so students learn to plan it, write it simply and reuse it across channels.

  1. Day 26

    Content strategy: funnel and formats

Revisit TOFU, MOFU, BOFU and create content for every stage, linking each piece to the next step. Match format to goal: blogs and guides for search traffic, short video for reach, carousels and notes for saves, case studies for trust, newsletters for loyalty.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Fill a grid: 3 funnel stages x 5 formats for the practice business; circle the 6 easiest ideas.
    Homework
Pick the one format you can publish weekly and say why.
  2. Day 27

    Writing frameworks and headlines

AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action). PAS (Problem, Agitate, Solution). Hook, Value, CTA for social posts. Headlines with numbers, benefits or questions. Write simply: short sentences, clear words.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Write one short post three ways (AIDA, PAS, Hook-Value-CTA) and 5 headlines.
    Homework
Pick the best version and get feedback from one person.
  3. Day 28

The quality checklist and writing a blog post

Solves one clear problem. Has original examples, data or experience. Matches search intent. Easy to skim: headings, lists, visuals. Ends with a clear next step. Write for humans first, search second.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Write a 500-600 word post from the Day 9 outline; check it against the 5-point quality checklist.
    Homework
Edit, add a CTA and publish or save as final.
  4. Day 29

    Lead magnets

Checklists, templates and cheat sheets; a free mini course or roadmap; audits and calculators. Ask for an email or WhatsApp number in exchange. Deliver instantly, then follow up.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Design a one-page checklist lead magnet in Canva and write its sign-up headline.
    Homework
Share the magnet with 3 people and collect feedback.
  5. Day 30

    Repurpose and distribute

One blog becomes a reel, a carousel, a thread and an email. Share in groups, communities and newsletters. Turn FAQs into short videos. Refresh old posts with new information. Post where your audience already is.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Turn the Day 28 blog into 4 pieces: reel script, carousel outline, 3-post thread, email.
    Homework
Publish or schedule two of them.
  6. Day 31

    Content calendar and review

A 4-week calendar mixing stages and formats; one weekly publishing rhythm you can keep; a simple review of what worked.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Build a 4-week content calendar with topic, format, funnel stage, channel and CTA. Module 5 quiz.
    Homework
Complete weeks 1-2 of content in advance.

Module deliverable: one published blog post, one lead magnet and a 4-week content calendar.

M6

Social Media Days 32–38 · 7 lessons

Students learn to pick one or two platforms, plan around content pillars, make reels and carousels that people save and share, and read the numbers that actually matter.

  1. Day 32

    Platform roles

Instagram: Reels, carousels, Stories, DMs. YouTube: search-driven long video plus Shorts. LinkedIn: B2B, founders, thought leadership. Facebook: local groups and community. Pick 1-2 platforms and master them first.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Score 4 platforms against the persona from Day 4; choose your 1-2 platforms.
    Homework
Create or clean up the chosen accounts.
  2. Day 33

    Content strategy and pillars

3-5 content pillars around your niche. Mix of educate, entertain, inspire, sell. Plan a weekly content calendar. Repurpose 1 idea into a reel, a carousel and a post. Consistency beats random viral attempts.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Define 4 pillars and 3 post ideas under each.
    Homework
Write down your posting rhythm (e.g. 3 posts a week) and keep it realistic.
  3. Day 34

    Reels and short video

Hook in the first 1-3 seconds. Text on screen, because many watch without sound. One idea per reel, cut fast. End with a clear CTA: save, share or comment. Use trending audio only when it fits.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Script one reel: hook line, 3 beats, on-screen text, CTA. Film it on a phone.
    Homework
Edit and publish or schedule the reel.
  4. Day 35

    Carousels and posts

A bold, simple cover slide is the hook. One point per slide, big readable text. Last slide: CTA plus a reason to follow. Notes, checklists and templates get saved. Keyword-rich captions for search.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Build a 6-slide carousel in Canva with a keyword-rich caption.
    Homework
    Publish or schedule the carousel.
  5. Day 36

    Growth tactics

Reply to comments and DMs fast. Collab posts with creators in your niche. Comment-to-DM offers (for example "Comment NOTES" to receive a resource). Keywords in your name field and bio are profile SEO. Engage with your niche before and after posting.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Rewrite your name field and bio with keywords; design one comment-to-DM offer using your Day 29 lead magnet.
    Homework
Spend 15 minutes a day for 3 days engaging with 10 niche accounts.
  6. Day 37

    Metrics that matter

Reach and non-follower reach. Saves and shares (the strongest signals). Watch time and 3-second hold rate. Profile visits and follows per post. DMs and leads from content. Engagement rate = engagements / reach x 100.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Read the insights of one post (yours or a demo account) and fill a weekly tracker.
    Homework
Fill the tracker for all posts published so far.
  7. Day 38

    Month plan and Mini-Project 2

Combine Day 31 content calendar with platform choices, pillars and CTAs into one 4-week plan.

Module deliverable: a profile optimised for search, 2 published posts (a reel and a carousel) and a 4-week social calendar.

M7

Email + WhatsApp Days 39–43 · 5 lessons

Email and WhatsApp are the channels a business owns. Students build a consent-based list, a welcome sequence and a WhatsApp setup, and learn the rules that keep messages out of spam.

  1. Day 39

    Build your list

You own the list, not the algorithm. Lead magnet plus a simple sign-up form. Always get clear opt-in consent. Collect name, email and WhatsApp number. Tag subscribers by interest and source.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Create a free account on Mailchimp or Brevo; build a sign-up form with consent text; connect the Day 29 lead magnet.
    Homework
Add the form to a page or bio link and test it with 3 sign-ups.
  2. Day 40

    Email sequences and writing emails

Welcome series of 3-5 emails. Nurture emails: tips, stories, proof. Abandoned cart and follow-up emails. Re-engage inactive subscribers. One goal and one CTA per email. Subject line: clear, short, curiosity. Use preview text, not "View in browser". Personal tone, short paragraphs, mobile-friendly design, one clear button.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Write emails 1 and 2 of a welcome series with subject lines, preview text and one CTA each.
    Homework
Write emails 3-5 and set up the automation.
  3. Day 41

    Deliverability and email metrics

Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your domain. One-click unsubscribe in marketing emails. Keep spam complaints below 0.3%. Clean bounced and inactive contacts. Never buy email lists. Email CTR = clicks / delivered x 100; open rate is less reliable because of privacy features; watch unsubscribe and spam complaint rates.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Walk through the sender-authentication checklist for a demo domain; calculate email CTR from sample numbers.
    Homework
Send a test to 2 inbox providers and check where it lands.
  4. Day 42

    WhatsApp marketing

WhatsApp Business App: small businesses, catalog, quick replies. WhatsApp Business Platform (API): automation and scale. Message templates: marketing, utility, authentication. Pricing is per message on the Platform. Only message people who opted in.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Install the Business App; set a profile, catalog item, greeting and 3 quick replies.
    Homework
Add a WhatsApp opt-in line to the sign-up form.
  5. Day 43

WhatsApp best practices and Module wrap

24-hour window after a customer messages you. Click-to-WhatsApp ads for instant leads. Reply fast; use auto-replies and labels. Personalise; do not spam broadcasts. Track replies, clicks and conversions.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Design a lead-to-sale WhatsApp flow: first reply, follow-up, offer, label. Module 7 quiz.
    Homework
Test the flow with a friend and note 2 improvements.

Module deliverable: a working sign-up form, a 3-5 email welcome sequence and a WhatsApp Business setup with quick replies.

Google Ads Days 44–48 · 5 lessons

Google Ads captures people who are already searching, so it is the best first paid channel to learn. Students build a full Search campaign plan without spending money: they stop at the review screen and never need to enter payment details in class.

  1. Day 44

    Campaign types

Search: text ads for high-intent keywords. Performance Max: all Google channels, goal-based. Demand Gen: YouTube, Gmail and Discover. Video: YouTube reach and views. AI Max: opt-in AI reach inside Search campaigns. Beginners start with Search.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Match each of 5 business goals to the right campaign type; create a Google Ads account and stop before billing.
    Homework
Write the goal and campaign type for the practice business.
  2. Day 45

    Keywords and negatives

Match types: broad, "phrase", [exact]. Add negative keywords to stop wasted spend. Check the search terms report every week. Group tightly related keywords per ad group. Use Keyword Planner for ideas and bid estimates.

    In-class lab (25 min)
In Keyword Planner, build 2 ad groups of 8-10 keywords each with match types, plus 10 negative keywords.
    Homework
Add 10 more negatives and justify each.
  3. Day 46

    Ads and assets

Responsive Search Ads: up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions. Keyword plus benefit plus CTA in headlines. Sitelinks, callouts, call and location assets. Add image assets and structured snippets. Landing page must match the ad's promise.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Write 15 headlines and 4 descriptions for one ad group; list 4 assets.
    Homework
Check that the landing page repeats the ad's promise; fix mismatches.
  4. Day 47

    Bidding and Quality Score

Maximize Conversions to start collecting data. Target CPA once conversions are steady. Target ROAS for e-commerce revenue. Maximize Clicks for traffic only. Avoid big changes while bidding is learning. Quality Score is rated 1-10 at keyword level from expected CTR, ad relevance and landing page; a higher score means better position and lower CPC. Fast, mobile-friendly, relevant landing pages; keyword in headline and landing page text.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Choose a bidding strategy for 3 scenarios; score one keyword's three Quality Score parts as above/average/below.
    Homework
Improve one landing page element for Quality Score.
  5. Day 48

    Tracking and campaign plan

Set up conversions with the Google tag. Turn on enhanced conversions. Link Google Ads with GA4. Track calls and form leads as conversions. Judge by cost per lead, not just clicks.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Assemble the campaign on one page: goal, type, budget, keywords, negatives, ads, bidding, conversion actions. Module 8 quiz.
    Homework
Review the plan against the Google Ads checklist.

Module deliverable: a complete Google Search campaign plan (or built draft) with keywords, negatives, one responsive ad and a tracking plan.

Meta Ads Days 49–53 · 5 lessons

Where Google Ads captures existing demand, Meta Ads creates it by showing the right creative to the right audience on Facebook and Instagram. Students again build a campaign without spending, ending with Mini-Project 3.

  1. Day 49

Campaign structure and the 6 objectives

Campaign: objective and budget. Ad set: audience, placements, schedule. Ad: creative, copy and call-to-action. Fewer, bigger ad sets learn faster. Clear naming: objective_audience_date. Objectives: Awareness (reach, recall), Traffic (clicks), Engagement (likes, video views, messages), Leads (instant forms, calls, WhatsApp), App promotion, Sales.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Open Ads Manager, pick an objective for the practice business and name the campaign, ad set and ad properly.
    Homework
Match 6 sample goals to the correct objective.
  2. Day 50

    Audiences

Advantage+ audience: AI finds buyers. Custom audiences: visitors, customers, viewers. Lookalikes: people similar to your buyers. Retarget site visitors and video viewers. Exclude existing customers when needed.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Define one broad (Advantage+), one custom and one lookalike audience for the practice business.
    Homework
Write which audience you would test first and why.
  3. Day 51

    Creative

Creative is the new targeting. Hook in the first 3 seconds. Sizes: 9:16 for Reels and Stories, 4:5 for Feed. Test 3-5 creatives per ad set. UGC, testimonials and before/after win trust.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Make 3 creative variations in Canva (different hook, same offer) in 9:16 and 4:5.
    Homework
Write primary text and headline for each variation.
  4. Day 52

    Learning and scaling

Learning phase: about 50 optimization events in 7 days. Do not edit ads during learning. Scale budgets gradually. Refresh creative when frequency gets high. Advantage+ campaigns for sales and leads.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Role-play 4 scenarios (low results during learning, high frequency, strong CPA, budget increase) and decide the action for each.
    Homework
Write a scaling rule for your campaign.
  5. Day 53

    Tracking, metrics and Mini-Project 3

Install Pixel plus Conversions API. Check events in Events Manager. Watch CPM, CTR, CPC and frequency; judge by cost per lead and ROAS. Use UTM tags to track in GA4.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Finish the Meta campaign plan: objective, audiences, 3 creatives, budget, tracking, success numbers. Module 9 quiz.
    Homework
Submit Mini-Project 3: a paid campaign plan (Google or Meta, student's choice).

Module deliverable: a Meta campaign plan with 3 creatives and a tracking checklist.

Metrics and Tracking Days 54–56 · 3 lessons

By now students have seen every metric in context; this module pulls them together so they can decide what to fix.

  1. Day 54

    Ad metrics and business metrics

CTR = clicks / impressions x 100. CPC = cost / clicks. CPM = cost / impressions x 1,000. CPA or CPL = cost / conversions (or leads). ROAS = revenue / ad spend. ROI = (revenue - cost) / cost x 100. CAC = total marketing cost / new customers. LTV = average order value x purchases x lifespan; a healthy target is LTV of about 3x CAC. AOV = revenue / number of orders.

    In-class lab (25 min)
    Solve 8 worked examples, e.g. 2,000 impressions and 60 clicks gives a 3% CTR; 5,000 spent for 100 leads gives a CPL of 50.
    Homework
Calculate every metric for the practice business using made-up but realistic numbers.
  2. Day 55

    Website (GA4) and SEO metrics

Users and sessions. Engagement rate = engaged sessions / sessions. Bounce rate = 100% - engagement rate. Conversion rate = conversions / sessions x 100. Traffic by channel: organic, paid, social. SEO: impressions and clicks, organic CTR, average position, indexed pages, Core Web Vitals, referring domains and AI citations.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Explore the Google Analytics demo account: find users, engagement rate and traffic by channel; open the Search Console performance report.
    Homework
Write a short "what the numbers say" note on one report.
  3. Day 56

    Tools, UTMs and your dashboard

GA4 for website and conversions. Search Console for SEO. Looker Studio for free dashboards. UTM tags: source, medium, campaign. Meta Events Manager and Google Ads conversions.

    In-class lab (25 min)
Build a Looker Studio dashboard with 6 tiles: sessions, conversions, CTR, CPC, CPA, ROAS (sample data is fine). Module 10 quiz.
    Homework
Add UTM links to every channel you set up in this course.

Module deliverable: a one-page metrics sheet and a Looker Studio dashboard.

    Homework

    In-class lab (25 min)
Rehearse in groups of 3-4 and score each other on a simple 5-point rubric.
    Homework
Finalise slides or a one-page summary.
  4. Day 60

    Final presentations and next steps
